Basic Sensory Assessment

This assessment is an ideal starting point if you are unsure if your child has sensory processing differences. It may be helpful as a consideration when investigating possible diagnoses as part of a multidisciplinary approach. The assessment is based on information provided by the primary caregiver - acknowledging you as the expert on your child. It reviews how your child respond to sensory experiences in everyday life to determine their sensory processing profile.

  • Child Sensory Profile 2 (CSP2) Caregiver Questionnaire

    • The Child Sensory Profile 2 (CSP2) Caregiver Questionnaire is a tool designed to gather information about how a child responds to sensory experiences in everyday situations across various environments. It is completed by the primary caregiver/s who are considered experts on the child. The CSP2 Caregiver Questionnaire consists of a series of statements or questions related to different sensory experiences, such as touch, movement, sight, sound, taste, and smell. Caregivers are asked to rate their child's responses to these experiences based on their observations. The CSP2 Caregiver Questionnaire is a standardised assessment tool requiring interpretation of results by qualified professionals.

Clinical analysis of the CSP2 Caregiver Questionnaire by qualified Occupational Therapist

    • Beyond the CSP2 Summary Report, it is critical for the Occupational Therapist to complete a comprehensive clinical analysis of your child’s behaviour as reported within the assessment tool (CSP2 Caregiver). The OT will consider a number of factors including overall patterns of behaviour, environmental factors and multisensory integration within the context of your child’s developmental stage.

  • Child Sensory Profile 2 (CSP2) Caregiver Summary Report

    • The CSP2 Summary report provides quantitative scores and descriptive information about sensory processing patterns. It can be helpful in providing insights for your child’s healthcare team as a record of behaviour and an overview of sensory processing patterns. This report is generated based on data gathered directly from the CSP2 Caregiver Questionnaire and does not involve clinical analysis. As such, the accuracy of the findings within summary reports may vary. A clinical analysis is essential in assessing and interpreting sensory profiles accurately.

One-page Sensory Profile Overview “Sensational Me”

    • The overview page outlines your child’s sensory processing profiles within each sensory domain assessed as well as some basic information and advice.

    • The one-page profile is reflective of your child’s sensory processing profile based on clinical analysis of the CSP2 and as such may identify a profile within one or more sensory domains which differ from theCSP2 Summary Report.

    • The profiles described within the overview document represents your child’s sensory profile as determined by the Occupational Therapist based on the information provided.

    • This document is designed to be easy to read and visually appealing. It is perfect for schools, preschools and childcare centres, and includes a photograph of your child (with consent).

Standard Sensory Assessment

The report associated with this assessment aims to equip you as the primary caregiver with the information you need to better understand how your child perceives the world around them. Empowering you to both proactively and reactively support your child to regulate his or her nervous system so as to facilitate participation and engagement for developmental and quality of life outcomes.

The accuracy of findings within the Standard Sensory Assessment are enhanced with the inclusion of the observational assessment component of the service, allowing the accompaniment of a more detailed report.

The OT will consider a number of factors including overall patterns of behaviour, environmental factors and multisensory integration within the context of your child’s developmental stage.

    Observational Assessment

    • The Occupational Therapist will observe your child within a familiar setting. The location for the observation will be within the school, preschool or childcare environment. If your child does not attend one of these settings, or an observation session is unable to be facilitated by the institution, the observation will be completed with the child in the home environment.

    • The Occupational Therapist will note your child’s behaviour with a focus on social skills and interactions, problem-solving, emotional regulation, understanding routines and expectations, mobility and motor coordination, attention, engagement and more.

    • The Occupational Therapist will use this information when clinically analysing the CSP2 Caregiver Questionnaire to determine the final sensory profile recommendations for each of the assessed domains.

    • The observation session is necessary for the Occupational Therapist to attend in person to ensure the therapist gains adequate awareness of the entire space including firsthand exposure to the sensory environment. This element of the assessment is therefore unable to be facilitated through a live video screen or telehealth. As such, travel fees will apply in association with this assessment component.
